The menu in the new Gundel is based on traditional Hungarian cuisine as once practiced by Károly Gundel and his staff. They prepare refined versions of Hungarian dishes, revive traditional fares once eaten at the tables of East European aristocracy and offer specialties of the worlds major culinary cultures.

After years of experimentation and extensive testing, they have also developed light versions of Hungarian cuisine, reducing cholesterol and calorie content. Generally speaking, dishes served in the new Gundel are lighter and healthier than they had ever been in the restaurant’s one-hundred-year history.

In the Cellars the selection, which includes more than 100 wines from all grape-producing regions of Hungary, is changed every month, allowing visitors to purchase by the glass rather than splashing out for a whole bottle.

Guests can sit in a side room, on high stools by a large wooden bar decorated with mini wine barrels, consulting with the sommelier about which bottle to select. Those who fancy just a few drinks or want to sample some of the best Hungarian wines can also nibble on delicacious dishes.

However, if you wish, you can stay for a full dinner; ensconced in the main dining area, seated at tables with white cloths and full silver service, you could choose from the full menu which, besides main courses and desserts, includes "borkorcsolyák" - snacks to accompany wine. Guests may also decide the wines of which Hungarian wine region should be served at dinner and our Chef de cuisine will compose the menu - with dishes suiting the wines you selected. After tasting or dinner you may buy the wines you prefer to take them home.
