Besides the mountain tours, tourists can visit the numerous interesting little towns at the foot of the High Tatra. We will mention first, the ancient little town of Kesmark, with 6,000 inhabitants, not far from Poprad Felka. Of interest is the old Parish Church, of the 15h century, with many monuments from olden times, then the Protestant Church of wood and the Thukoly Castle, where, in 1906, the earthly remains of Emerich Thokoly were laid to rest. Still more interesting is a visit to Locse, the "Hungarian Nuremberg", capital of the County of Szepes. It is rich in mediaeval buildings of great historical value; the Parish Church of St. James, a three-naved church of the 13th Century, is one of the most beautiful Churches of Hungary, and a real Museum of mediaeval art, with its superb altar, baptismal fonts, tombs and frescoes of much artistic value. No less interesting is the Town-hall, a Gothic building with piazzas and arcades; in the Session Hall is a costly crystal lustre, a present from the Town of Venice.
In the principal Square also, are many ladings, which still preserve their arcades I courts in renascence style, and are very cresting to visit.
To the East of the Tatra, lies the pretty watering-place Lillafured, near to the town and Castle of Lublo.
It is situated on the road leading to the river Dunajecz, which cuts its way through the mountains in a gorge of wondrous beauty. The excursion in tree trunks hollowed to the shape of boats, from the Red Convent to the Galician health-resort Sczawnicza, is a curiosity of the first rank and may be warmly recommended to all.
