From the Suspension Bridge which leads from Francis-Joseph Square, to the right bank, we have a splendid view of the grand row of buildings on the left bank, as far as the Parliament buildings; and of the Buda hills with the Royal Castle, and Mount Gellert in the background. The Suspension Bridge, one of the finest works of its kind, was constructed 1838-- 1848, from the plans Adam and William Tiernay Clark; it rests on two supports 48 meters in height, and has a length of 375 meters, of which 282 meters fall between the two supports. Although the oldest of all Budapest bridges, and, from a technical standpoint already somewhat antiquated, it is still today the finest bridge of Budapest -- and stands there unequalled in its noble architecture.
