The literary and scientific efforts of the Hungarian nation have their natural centre in Budapest, from where, so-to-speak, every pulse beat issues, and whither all aspire who wish to come into force in this sphere. Here is the seat of the most prominent scientific, literary and cultural Societies, Unions and Institutions. At the head of all these associations stands the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the highest scientific areopagus of Hungary. Hundreds of societies are attached to it, which cultivate individual branches of knowledge.
