On the left bank of the Danube stretches a vast plain, which has been extremely favourable for the development of the City. Here also are situated the principal suburbs, forming seven districts which embrace 80 % of the whole population. The centre is formed by the Fourth District called the City. This part of the town, bounded by Deak Street and the Inner Boulevards (Charles Boulevard. Museum Boulevard and the Custom's House Boulevard) possesses only 25,000 inhabitants, but is the centre of the business life.
The superb quay of the Danube, here called the Corso, is the rendezvous of fashionable society, in the beautiful seasons of the year. From the Inner Boulevard proceed radius-wise four large arteries; the Vacz Boulevard, King Street, Rakoczi Avenue and Ulloi Avenue, which separate the five large districts (Leopold Town, Theresa Town. Elizabeth Town, Joseph Town and Francis Town i.e. districts V-IX) surrounding the Inner Town. A wide and beautiful semi-circular Boulevard, beginning at the Margaret Bridge and finishing at the Danube in Boraros Square, cuts through these arteries and traverses the left bank of the river. A second semi circular Boulevard (Hungaria korut) parallel to the preceding is in course of formation.
