The main railway describes a large curve at the foot of the Bukk Mountains and turning: towards the North, soon reaches Miskolcz. This town, together with Kassa the most important of North Hungary, is rapidly progressing, I for its situation is not only very pretty, but I from a traffic standpoint also very advantageous. In the background rise the forest-clad Bukk Mountains, out of which opens the Szinva Valley. At the end of the latter lies the industrial town Diosgyor, with its old castle ruins and large state iron and steel foundry, which employs over 4000 workmen. Further up, the Szinva Valley narrows to a beautiful pass, which has been called the "Hungarian Tempe". We find here the lovely Hamor Lake, and the pretty Villa colony Lillafured. It is a charmingly lovely district and a favourable starting-point for the bigger excursions into the high parts of the mountains, which are rich in natural beauties.
