Living with Herpes
Living with Herpes is not easy. When you realize that you have herpes, it seems that life is over and you will never be able to live happily. Getting herpes is a serious shock; you need to reevaluate your whole life anew.

Part of the psychological effect of contracting herpes is societal in nature. There is an intense herpes hysteria in the world and people are scared of the herpes as if it was some sort of evil demon. Even admitting in public that you have herpes constitutes a serious commitment, as if you were coming out of the closet. It is not a simple statement of your health condition but a human rights pledge, a dedication to fight for life for the rights of those who have are different.

But, after all, herpes is a virus. Like cold virus, you catch it when you are an infant and you live with it for the rest of your life. What makes herpes different is that it is often connected with sexuality. Herpes simplex is treated as a venereal disease and it elevates it to the status to something much larger. But you might not even have any symptoms, ever.

But you are still afraid of transmission and think that you will never be able to date healthy people again. You go to herpes dating websites and agencies or you begin introducing yourself to others as someone having herpes. Hi, my name is Ann and I have herpes.

While it may be true that you cannot just go around jeopardizing other people's health, the fact is that most people never actually sleep with many partners. We all have friends who do, or claim to do so but most of us have very few partners throughout our lifetime. And it is usually the people you care about that you spend time with. And these people would still want to be with you, even if you have herpes. They would take the effort and work on a solution or work around the problem with you.

Those who do not want to deal with herpes and would rather lose you are probably the ones who would have not made it through the first month anyway, even if you had no herpes. They are the chaff.

It seems to me that the biggest problem with herpes, especially herpes simplex, is psychological. To live with herpes you need to overcome these barriers and concentrate at the actual problem.
