Language Learning Series: Japanese

Japan has 125 million speakers and its language is the most widely studied Asian language in the world. The written language today is a combination of three kinds of script: two phonetic syllabaries called hiragana and katakana, and kanji, an ideographic system adopted from the Chinese. To read a newspaper in Japan, one needs to know about 2,000 kanji, the memorization of which is probably the most difficult task in learning the language.

With this product, you will not just learn to speak Japanese, but you will also learn the necessary skills to be on your way to fluency. The system is made up of two software titles: Beginners and Everyday Japanese.

The first of the two software titles was designed with the beginner in mind for the effortless absorption of language fundamentals, focusing on sounds, tones, phonics, hiragana, katakana, and basic kanji. It builds your knowledge of the fundamentals through lessons that gradually increase in difficulty. Before you know it, you will be able to speak the language.

The Everyday title which is the second part of the software package is intended to provide you with maximum exposure to the language. It allows for full immersion and increases your working vocabulary by presenting in a wide range of situations. Unlike in the Beginners title, you are encouraged to select the lessons that best suit your needs. Starting to learn to speak and write with this software package is as simple as pointing, clicking, and listening.
