A Regular Pickle. (Redway.)

Mr. H. W. Nesfield has a peculiar style, and in the main a very taking one. If his latest contribution to fiction is not equal to a former novel, "A Chequered Career," still is the new work there are plenty of lively incidents that will recommend it and make the story a popular one. The hero is an only son, and for a son and heir his parents had wished for many years; but, unfortunately, he turns out such a prevaricator of the truth and a manufacturer of the marvellous, that he obtains the reputation of being a most accomplished liar. And the way he plays the humbug is equal to his lies. Suffering from a malformation of the mouth, he goes willingly to a dentist to have the matter rectified. His parents are much surprised at his alacrity in obeying their wishes on this point. The young hopeful thinks the gold plate will fetch several pounds when he is pressed for cash, and ultimately he does part with this and other articles, and then to account for their loss he invents all manner of tales. The reader, we have no doubt, will follow the vicissitudes of this unprincipled young gentleman with considerable relish, for the ball is kept rolling, and the interest is never allowed to flag. How the squire's son ultimately sows his wild oats we will not disclose, but this much we will say, that his numerous ups and downs, if not sensational, are wonderfully attractive.
