It may be interesting to note the contemporary sovereigns who were ruling at the time of the close of Catherine's career, in 1727. Achmed II was Sultan of Turkey, Benedict XIII was Pope, Philip V King of Spain, Louis XV King of France, John V King of Portugal, Frederick William King of Prussia, Charles Albert of Bavaria, Charles VI of Germany, Victor Amadeus of Sardinia, Jivonnia Gastone of Tuscany, Frederick IV of Denmark, Frederick of Sweden, Frederick Augustus I of Poland and George I of England, the latter dying in June of that year.
