PICTURES OF SARS. An exhibition of children's drawings of SARS has been held in the Temple of Confucius near the Lama Temple (Yonghegong) in Beijing.
About a thousand of these children's drawings attached to this long wall. Each of them was drawn, or rather painted, on a piece of cloth. Some of the works were also complemented by embroidery. As a general rule, the designs are very textual in nature -- most of them are either entirely composed of or at least have some Chinese characters on them. This type of calligraphic attitude towards Chinese characters goes well with the tradition of the Temple of Confucius which houses some of the best examples of Chinese calligraphy carved in stone.
Behind the wall, inside the building there was is also an exhibit related to SARS, providing some general information on the way SARS was fought against. I have to confess that the children's pictures were much more impressive.
