Pictures of the dragon - Drawings and paintings of the dragon

The pictures of the dragon below come from four different traditions. The first one is a painting by Vittore Carpaccio, St. George and the Dragon. It was painted in 1502, and shows the battle of St. George and the dragon, the most popular topic related to dragons at that age.

The second picture is by Raffaello Sanzio, entitled St. Michael and the Dragon. It is from 1505.

The third picture is a Chinese porcelain vase. The dragon is a very popular motif in Chinese art.

The fourth picture is a painting by fantasy painter Larry Elmore. In the 21st century the dragon lives on in fantasy books, paintings, and more.

The fifth picture is a woodcut in an old book illustration, depicting a knight slaying the sea dragon.
