Pictures of Sphinx - Drawings and paintings of the Sphinx

The Sphinx (sometimes also spelled as Sphynx) is one of the greatest mysteries of human history. It had withstood millennia lying calmly in the Egyptian desert until French soldiers of Napoleon destroyed its face. But that could not take away the majesty and grace with which it greats you when you first see it. The pictures of the Sphinx below come from different sources.

The first picture is the Sphinx at Giza near Cairo, seen from the left side with a single pyramid behind it. The photo clearly shows the destroyed face.

The second picture is an early photograph of the Sphinx, only from the front. The photo dates to the 1920s.

The third picture is a color photograph of the Sphinx from the late 19th century.

The fourth picture is the cover of the DVD "The Mystery of the Sphinx," hosted by the famous Egyptologist Charlton Heston.
