Why is this useful?
First of all, you can learn one romanization if you know the other. Then, you can test yourself. Some library catalogues, such as the University of California Libraries catalogue called Melvyl, use the Wade-Giles system, whereas others, such as UC Berkeley's catalogue called Gladis, use pinyin. In reality, if you do research, you will eventually need to learn both romanization systems. But for now, you can use the converter.
On the other hand, if you have no idea what Wade-Giles and pinyin is, this is probably not useful to you at all.
