This is a Chinese romanization converter that converts the pinyin system to Wade-Giles or vice versa. Simply enter the romanization you want to convert from, select the appropriate option and press "Convert." Pinyin to Wade-Giles Wade-Giles to pinyin Why is this useful? First of all, you can learn one romanization if you know the other. Then, you can test yourself. Some library catalogues, such as the University of California Libraries catalogue called Melvyl, use the Wade-Giles system, whereas others, such as UC Berkeley's catalogue called Gladis, use pinyin. In reality, if you do research, you will eventually need to learn both romanization systems. But for now, you can use the converter. If you have problems or questions, email me at imre@oktat.com. |
